Jon Wixtrom

Head Pastor

Jon Wixtrom is a graduate of the University of South Florida (BA in Religious Studies) and Dallas Theological Seminary (ThM in Pastoral Ministry) and completed his Doctor of Ministry in Expository Preaching at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, in December 2015.  He and his wife, Tracie, have been blessed with four children: Jack, Sydney, Aslan, and Eriksson.  His personal interests include coaching sports, outdoor adventure, theology, eating good chicken wings, and enjoying his family. "I am extremely excited to be a part of what God is doing through the body of believers at Church of the Open Door.  God is using my heart and passion for the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the church that He is building, as well as my genuine care and compassion for people, to encourage God's people to knowledge, obedience, and ministry for His glory.  The Lord has uniquely shaped me through full-time ministry in several different pastorates in Florida.
God's call upon my life to shepherd His people has placed within me an insatiable desire to lead, encourage, love, teach, and labor with His people to strengthen the church that Christ is building.  I am convinced that the church is established to glorify God by being a body that demonstrates the Truth of God, the supremacy of Christ, and the unity and love of His Spirit.  I am committed to the Gospel of Jesus Christ no matter how unpopular, intolerant, and insensitive it may be perceived.  My only platform is the Bible, the inspired inerrant word of God and I am excited to share its truth to instill purpose and passion in His people."

Jason Buechner

Music Director

Jason Buechner is originally from Kansas but was brought to Fayetteville back in 2001 when his family was stationed at Fort Bragg. He grew up, active in the church and came to trust Christ as savior at a very young age.
He and his wife, Brianna, met in middle school, through church and the homeschool community, and they’ve never looked back! They were married in March of 2013, and they share 3 children together, whom they also homeschool: Hailey, Liam, and Ally.
Jason comes from a musical family with his parents both playing multiple instruments. His mom taught him and his siblings the piano and to sing in choir. As a teenager, he participated with his youth worship band, which is when he began playing the guitar, and he's been leading in corporate worship ever since.
"Ever since I was young, I thought my Christian life was measured by the amount and quality of my own, outward works, so my walk with God became an impersonal performance. Just a few years ago, however, the Holy Spirit began moving in my heart and mind in ways I hadn't experienced before as His Word came alive within me, stirring me up onto zeal for a life of holiness and faith as I find my true joy in Christ. Praise His name! Now I have a strong passion to help others with me to see God more and more clearly as He's revealed Himself to us in His Word and in His creation so that we may more fully and appropriately love, cherish, and worship Him with all of our heart, soul, mind and strength. Worship isn't a style of music; it's a style of life!"

He has served in children's ministry for 4 years and is following the Lord's lead in becoming a full-time Children's Pastor. When not reading theology books, he enjoys welding, skateboarding, hockey, cold weather, and spending time with his family and friends.
Eli also serves as a part-time missionary to Uganda, Africa, as he evangelizes, teaches, and disciples people of all ages. His greatest desire is to be obedient to his calling, coming alongside parents to help lead young people to the Lord through the truth of God's Word, sound theology, and a deeper understanding of God's grace, justice, and steadfast love.
"Growing up, many children's ministries were nothing but fun and fluff. Because of my parent's instruction and recent exposure to reformed theology, I now desire to share these truths with every child I have the privilege of teaching. Soli Deo Gloria."
